Ultrasensitive Quantum Thermometer- What Is It?

By admin May 15, 2019 16:10

Researchers at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, have developed an ultrasensitive quantum thermometer using graphene quantum dots.

  • The quantum thermometer can precisely measure a wide range of temperature: 27 degrees C to –196 degree C. It can also be used for measuring high temperatures up to 100 degrees C.
  • It has high sensitivity when measuring different temperatures.
  • It can measure micro Kelvin changes in temperature and has a quick response time.
  • It can be made to any shape and dimension.

  • It will be useful in the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare to measure the incubation temperature of biological cells and molecules.
  • Automobile industry to measure the ignition temperature within the engine.
  • It can also find widespread applications in cryogenic temperature sensing.

About Graphene quantum dots (GQDs)

  • Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) represent single-layer to tens of layers of graphene of a size less than 30 nm.
  • They are a relatively new class of molecules that have ignited tremendous research interest due to their extraordinary and tunable optical, electrical, chemical and structural properties.
